The Free Annual Horicon Marsh Hike is Saturday, June 1, 2019. Email me to sign up! This is our 7th annual Spring / Summer hike through the beautiful Horicon Marsh. We hope you’ll join us! The agenda is as listed:
  • 10 am: We meet in the auto tour parking lot, south off of highway 49
  • We decide whether to hike the paved 3-mile auto tour trail or the 4.3-mile mix of grass and dirt trail.
  • After our hike, (about noon) we meet at the Pizza Ranch, in Waupun, for a much deserved yummy lunch!
About the hikes: The paved trail is the narrow Auto Tour road, which circles the perimeter of this segment of the Marsh. The road is paved and is rated as an easy hike. The 4.3-mile trail loop includes the Redhead, Red Fox, and Egret Loops of Horicon Marsh. It is rated as an easy to moderate trail and is good for most skill levels. This trail traverses beautiful marsh, lush prairie, and woodland views. It also hosts a variety of birds. The trail skirts views of the Rock River and hikers get a unique experience walking the lengthy boardwalk which floats over the marsh.

In the Spring, watch for nesting geese, herons, egrets, pelicans, barn swallows, meadowlarks, bobolinks, water birds, and many other species. There are too many to name; its best to experience the magic for yourself!
